About Us

The Chef's Guide to the Job Ready Program Australia

The Job Ready Program (JRP) is a comprehensive employment and skills program designed to facilitate the transition from TR to PR for international graduates who have completed their training in Australia. It's an essential step for many individuals, particularly those in trade occupations like chefs. Here, we'll discuss the specific job ready program for chef requirements.

Understanding the Job Ready Program for Chef Requirements

To qualify for the JRP, the candidate must meet specific requirements:

  • Completion of an Australian qualification directly relevant to the occupation you are applying for such as Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery or Certificate IV in Kitchen Management.
  • Have a successful PSA (or JRPRE) for your nominated occupation. Your PSA (or JRPRE) outcome is valid for 3 years from date of issue.

Delving into the Chef Job Ready Program

The Job Ready Program generally involves a year-long engagement with an employer in your nominated occupation if you work full time. A midway and final test assesses your skills, and upon successful completion, you earn a Skills Assessment. You can now take up to three (3) years from your JRP Start Date to complete the entire program.  If you do not complete the program within 3 years, your application will be finalised with an unsuccessful outcome. If you are unsuccessful because the 3-year period passed, you will need to reapply for the whole program if you wish to return.

Contrary to popular belief, the 5 points claimed during the JRP are for the employment component, not the Skills Assessment.

The chef job ready program offers a clear pathway for chefs to gain the experience and skills needed for Australian PR. The program allows chefs to work in real-world kitchens, providing valuable hands-on experience while also improving their chances of PR.

Pathways for Chefs through the Job Ready Program

Upon successful completion of the chef job ready program, chefs have multiple pathways to PR, including the SC 186, the SC 482 Employer Sponsorship Visa, or the General Skilled Migration visas such as SC 189, (SC 190 visa for chef), or SC 491.
