190 Visa Step By Step

5 Simple Steps When Applying for 190 Visa

Wondering how to apply for the 190 Visa subclass? Here are the 5 steps in the application process for the Australian Skilled Independent Visa (a.k.a. 190 Visa subclass).

1 Check

 1. Check for eligibility

The first step is to check for your eligibility on each state's skilled occupation list, check the minimum points requirement,  and also check the maximum age requirement.

You'll find that requirements vary in each Australian state.  For example, in Victoria, you need a minimum of 65 points and you need to be under the age of 45.

2. Submit EOI

Submit your formal Expression of Interest via the Skill Select system.

You must submit an individual Expression of Interest to each State and Territories, so please check it carefully before completing.

Visit the SkillSelect system.

2 Submit
3 Wait

3. Wait for an invitation

Currently, in March 2020, it will take 4 to 5 weeks for the Victoria State invitations. The waiting time and invitation round for other states are varied.

For years, many applicants have been waiting through the process. The only requirement for this step is your patience.

4. Gather your documents

The documents required to be furnished for the skilled visa Australia application are:

📑Identity Proof (birth certificate, passport, name change proof, etc.)
📑Health, character and police check certifications
📑Skills Assessment
📑Proof of Age
📑English test certification e.g. TOFEL, IELTS and PTE
📑Qualifications and Work Experience proof e.g. recommendation letter from an employer.

5. Submit your 190 Visa Application

When you have your invitation, you can apply online. You can be in or outside Australia.

You must apply for the 190 Visa within 60 days of receiving the invitation, and the process can take up to 4-7 months.

The Department of Home Affairs (immi.homeaffairs.gov.au) is the government section that looks after the 190 Visa application.  This is where you need to regularly check for updates on the progress of your application.
